Tigers News · The Future of the Portage Trail Conference

Lake Center Christian has been a member of the Portage Trail Conference since the 2015-16 school year. Throughout the course of the 2019-20 school year, there was a lot of speculation regarding the restructuring of the conference due to the departure of a few schools. Plans have since been solidified and all details are below regarding LCCS’ Junior High and High School Sports Team’s future in the PTC:

2020-21 School Year: Former members Crestwood and Valley Christian will be leaving the PTC and that will leave five schools: Lake Center Christian, Garfield, Mogadore, Rootstown, and Southeast. As an interim solution to the small number of schools, the PTC will function as a five-school conference for just one school year. Many of our sports teams will play conference opponents three times instead of the typical two.

2021-22 School Year: Garfield will also be leaving the PTC. However, St. Thomas Aquinas and Warren John F. Kennedy will join to make it a six-school conference again and we’ll be able to revert back to normal scheduling methods. These six schools have made a commitment to each other and plan to stay together in the years to come. The Athletic Directors of the conference will be working to add one or two additional schools within the next few years.
